The Valley Pike (today's US 11) from Fishers Hill to Woodstock, Edinburg, and Mt. Jackson. The 116th Ohio marched from Fishers Hill to the bridge over the Shenandoah, just south of Mt. Jackson, on September 24, 1864. They retraced their steps back to Fishers Hill on October 7 and 8.
'Siegel's fight', the Battle of New Market, May 15, 1864, occurred to the south of the bridge. That battle ended with the Union force retreating across the bridge, then burning it.
The Cavalry Battle of Toms Brook was fought between Toms Brook and Woodstock on October 9, 1864.
