The Union army marched from Sharpsburg, MD, to Sandy Hook, across the river from Harpers Ferry, on July 27, 1864. After being reinforced by the 6th and 19th Corps on July 30, they marched north through the Middletown area to the vicinity of Wolfsville, where they arrived on July 31.
