Company B, 116th Ohio Volunteer Infantry

A roster of Company B, with the name, rank, age, enlistment date, enlistment period and remarks about each soldier. The vast majority of the troops, 104 officers and men, enlisted between August 12 and 18, 1862 for a 3 year term. Of these, 59 soldiers, including Pvt. I. N. Webster, remained with the Company at the end of the war and were mustered out on June 14, 1865, in Richmond, Virginia; 17 others, including I. N.'s brother Gilbert, were mustered out at other locations, where most were presumably recovering from wounds; three transfered to other Ohio regiments and one officer resigned. Seven additional soldiers joined the regiment in late 1863 and early 1864; three of these remained with the company at the end of the war and were transfered to the 62nd OVI to complete their terms of service.

A total of 12 members of Company B were killed or died of wounds suffered in battle (4 at Fort Gregg, 2 each at Lynchburg and Opequon, 1 each at Piedmont, Cool Spring, Cedar Creek and Fishers Hill). Two men died in Confederate prison camps (Andersonville and Danville) after being captured; three others died of unspecified causes. Eleven soldiers were discharged on 'Surgeon's certificate of disability', most presumably for wounds suffered in battle.
